REIKI
What Is Reiki?
The practice of Reiki was discovered and developed by Dr Usui Mikao in Japan in the late 1800’s.He dedicated his life to Reiki healing, establishing clinics in Tokyo. It is from these beginnings that Reiki has now spread worldwide with more and more people becoming aware of and finding out more about this special form of Healing.
The word Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is Japanese and can be broken down into two parts; Rei –meaning Universal and Ki – meaning Life Force Energy.Reiki means the free flow of the Universal Life Force Energy and is one of the simplest methods of Natural Healing.
Eastern medicine has always recognised and worked with this energy, which flows through all living things and is vital to health and well-being. It is known as ‘Ki’ in Japan, ‘Chi’ in China and‘Prana’ in India and is stimulated in the practice of Tai Chi, Acupuncture and Acupressure.
Reiki is a non-invasive, simple and effective technique that allows everyone to tap into an unlimited supply of ‘life force energy’, to improve health and enhance the quality of life.
How Can Reiki help you?
Reiki can be used to treat any problem; it is always beneficial and works in conjunction with other therapies to improve their effectiveness. It activates the body’s natural ability to heal itself and does this by treating the whole body on four levels, helping with emotional, physical, mental and spiritual problems.
At times we can find ourselves becoming more susceptible to illnesses. We seen to catch every bug that is going around and our immune system stops working as efficiently. This can be, for example, when we are under great stress, due to pressures at work, a sudden bereavement, family demands or emotional problems. This is when the natural flow of energy in our body becomes blocked and stops us from moving forward.Reiki can help to move these blockages, by working on the energy centres (the chakras) and balancing the body, and getting rid of the cause of dis-ease in the body.
Reiki can produce fast and long-lasting results in many cases of stress, tension, anxiety and sleeplessness.
Reiki is effective in speeding the recovery from surgery and in pain relief, it can help improve joint mobility, boost the immune system and calm the mind and emotions.Reiki can help to cope with some of the side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy and is now offered to patients in many hospices and some hospitals.
With Reiki, there are so many different ways it can help put the body back into balance.
Who Can Benefit From Reiki?
As Reiki is a gentle non-invasive therapy it can be used safely by all ages, including the newborn, pregnant mothers, surgical patients, the frail and the elderly.
What Happens During A Treatment?
The one-hour session would consist of lying fully clothed on a treatment couch, closing your eyes and listening to gentle, calming music. The Reiki practitioner will then lay their hands very lightly on or slightly above the body in a series of positions from the head to the feet.
During a treatment you may experience a number of different sensations from feeling intense heat or cold, tingling, stomach rumblings, seeing colours or falling asleep to nothing at all.But no matter what you may experience or what your particular complaint, the general effect of the Reiki treatment will leave you feeling more calm, relaxed, feeling less stressed and more able to cope.
How Often Would You Need A Treatment?
Although even one treatment can make a difference it is usually more beneficial to have a course of treatments, usually three, but it can depend on how chronic or deep rooted the problem is.
Reiki Training
Reiki is accessible to everybody and anyone can learn it.It does not take years of practice, it is simply passed on through a series of attunements from a qualified Reiki Master/Teacher to the student. There are four levels of Training. The Master ‘fine tunes’ the individual’s own abilities to channel universal life force energy much the same as tuning a radio from am to fm.Once attuned to Reiki, a person will then be able to use this energy for the rest of their life, whether healing others, healing plants or animals or simply just for self-healing.
INDIAN CHAMPISSAGE HEAD MASSAGE
So what is Indian Champissage Head Massage and what can it do for you?
Massage has an impressive history. In the Indian sub-continent, massage has always played an important part in their culture, dating back nearly 4,000 years. Indian Champissage springs from a rich massage tradition of family grooming.Indian infants receive regular massage from birth to keep them in good health. This continues until they are old enough to be taught how to share a massage with family members and is an integral part of family life.
Barbers practised many of these same skills. They would mostly practice their trade by going to individual’s houses, cutting hair and often offering Champi as part of the treatment. The Hindi word ‘Champi’ means Head Massage and this is where the word ‘shampoo’ comes from.
Champissage was introduced to this country in the 1970’s by Narendra Mehta, who, although blind from early childhood, is an accomplished Physiotherapist and Massage Therapist.Arriving in London to study Physiotherapy, he was surprised to discover that head massage was not included as part of the treatment given at the barbers. He later returned to India to research head massage wherever it was practised.Because of his blindness, his other senses were very finely tuned and he was able to developed a massage system that would bring the greatest relief to not only the multitude of problems concentrated in the head and face, but also those of the neck, shoulders, upper back and arms. He knew from experience, that when the head was worked on, it could bring tremendous relaxation, and pain and stress relief.
Champissage goes beyond simple Indian Head Massage. It combines physical massage with a more subtle form of massage, which affects a person’s energy centres. This creates a sense of well being in the whole body, allowing the mind to slow down and relax, bringing about feelings of inner peace.
How does Indian Champissage Head Massage Work?
Champissage Head Massage works as a counterbalance to stress. Stress itself is not always a bad thing – it only becomes a problem if taken to excess over a period of time. The body’s response to stress prepares us for ‘fight or flight’ but our modern way of living does not usually allow us to do either, so the body is left in a tense and alert state. It is when this stress becomes prolonged and untreated over a period of time, that it can often result in illness, potentially leading to heart, respiratory and digestive disorders, muscle tension, allergies, accidents or mental disorders.
How Can Indian Head Massage Help You?
Relaxation for muscles and the whole body
Relief from neck and shoulder stiffness
Restoration of joint movement and mobility
Helps with eyestrain, tinnitus, jaw ache, sinusitis, insomnia, headaches, migraines, hair loss, anxiety, stress and depression
Helps in clearer thinking and concentration
How Many And How Often Do You Need Treatments?
Treatments can be a single therapy or as a course of 5 regular weekly treatments. Some clients I have been treating for insomnia have found that after 3 treatments their sleeping patterns have begun to change and they are having a good nights sleep.
The 30 minute treatment is completed in a chair with the client fully clothed.Oils are generally not used unless an individual requests it.Each treatment works starting with the shoulders, upper arms, neck, scalp, face and ears, finishing with some energy balancing around the head.
This simple yet effective therapy can be performed either in the clinic or the workplace.Champissage can be particularly helpful to those who depend on computers in the office or at home, and is the ideal way to release all tension, strains and frustrations that can build up after hours in front of a screen.
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)
What is EFT?
EFT is described as ‘Acupuncture without the needles’.It is a technique thatuses tapping with your fingertips, on acupressure points of the face, body and hands, to alleviate problems of pain, fear, phobias, addictions and more.
It is a relatively new technique developed in the USA by Gary Craig and evolved from 'Thought Field Therapy' which was created by US clinical psychologist Roger Callahan. Callahan discovered that stimulating acupressure/energy points, led to psychological relief from anxieties and other issues.
How does EFT work?
The basic theory is that ‘the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system’.When we experience an emotional upset, an accident or any of a number of incidents, the memory is stored in the subconscious mind.Remembering the incident, or experiencing a similar situation will trigger the memory and the emotional charge attached to it.
EFT works by releasing the emotion attached to the experience and relieving the symptoms. It doesn’t change the memory but rather the way you feel about it.
What can be treated using EFT?
EFT has been successfully applied to treat a wide range of emotional problems and issues:
Addictive Cravings
Anxieties and Panic Attacks
Allergies
Anger
Compulsions and Obsessions
Enhance Performance
Fears and Phobias
Grief
Insomnia
Pain Management
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Relationships
Weight Loss
and many more
EFT is a simple and effective tapping and talking therapy, in which the client focuses on the pain or problem while the tapping takes place.Although it may seem an unusual treatment, relief from problems and conditions can often be obtained in one or two sessions and sometimes in moments. The advantage of this therapy is that the technique is easy to learn and can be taught to clients for their continuing use once the sessions have finished.
